Synopsis
A genre-bending life story based on Stephen King’s novel about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz. Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillan, Chiwetel Ejiofor and David Dastmalchian have all appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although none of them share scenes together. Hiddleston is Loki and is most associated with the films Thor (2011) and the television series Loki (2021), Gillan is Nebula and is most associated with the films Οι φύλακες του γαλαξία (2014), Ejiofor is Baron Mordo from the Doctor Who films Strange ( 2016 ), while Dastmalchian Kurt dos Ant-Man and Webb’s first 2 films in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Κβαντομανία (2023).
It’s very hard to explain, but Flanagan doesn’t waste a single scene
In short, Mike Flanagan has made a deep, multifaceted, yet beautiful film about the value of life. There is narration throughout the entire film, but from “Act Three” everything seen and experienced unfolds perfectly in “Act One”. Ejiofor and Gillan are fantastic in the third act, but if The Life of Chuck is to be nominated for anything, it has to be the sound.
Taylor Gordon is a talent unto herself in her brief but excellent role
From the cosmic elements in “Act Three” to the dance scenes in “Acts Two and One,” Flanagan has done an exceptional job incorporating sound throughout. Of course, everyone was focused on Hiddleston and his character, but Tom even mentioned that it was really a team effort in the second act between Annalize Basso, Hiddleston’s dance partner in the second act, and Taylor Gordon (who is in the closing credits of Pocket Queen), street performer, all three combined with their choreographers Mandy Moore and Stephanie Powell really make the dance scene sing. What surprised me was how the first act was with young Chuck, and no one talks about how great the kids were.
Stephen King is right when he says that Chuck’s life is one of the good ones
Their performances were just as brilliant as the adults, if not more so when young Chuck is given a very terrifying monologue by his grandfather (the amazing Mark Hamill) about certain life choices. The first act really helps piece together the puzzle that was the third act, where the cosmic elements may be unpleasant, but everything has a purpose. The spirit and energy is felt from start to finish, and with every performance on board giving his all, Flanagan further establishes himself as one of the greatest contemporary directors.
And there are a few cameos in Chuck’s life, but Scott’s inclusion just touched my heart
One thing I will say is that Chuck’s life is dedicated to the memory of Scott Wampler. Excellent movie.
