Remake of the Thai film Bad Genius (2017)
Synopsis
A group of students from an entrepreneurial high school team up to dismantle a rigged college admissions system. At the beginning of the film, there is a scene showing Lynn calculating the cost of the ride to the private school she visited. The film shows a stack of transit tickets that are clearly marked with a SEPTA logo, which stands for Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. SEPTA operates in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Half a minute later, the film identifies the city where Lynn and Dad live as Seattle.

References Roots (1977). My review should be at the top! I identified a lot. Strict father who made me so happy as soon as I got home. So it’s very relatable to first-generation Chinese girls.
It was good!!
Great movie!! I really liked it! I’m a first generation Chinese American girl in NYC and my Chinese immigrant father definitely ingrained college in my life. So I identified with the relationship between her and her father, it reminded me of my dad and I. I thought it was an original story but found out it was a remake.

For the American version it would have been more current if it was like a test required to enjoy life or a test to get into this elite, like this type of college. If the SATs were still important… but I guess even if it’s not that big of a deal for colleges I’m sure it’s a big deal for some old school parents/education conscious parents. But what am I saying! I enjoyed this movie, I think the plot is original (even if it is about the original) – I loved the actors (especially Benedict Wong <3 ) and the actress is remarkable…
We need more Asian-centric movies!
she seems like a promising young recruit for the “Asian actresses” in the Hollywood community. I love that she speaks Canto… we can see her in future rom-coms and move on to action movies. The other teen actors/actresses fit your high school stereotypes, the actors can be interchangeable, Where unless it replaces the entire race of the character it is harder to change/stand out?
